No, we have something called “rehabilitative maintenance.” This means that a spouse who gave up work opportunities for the marriage may be able to get money for a period of time. If the marriage is very long term, 30 or more years, the maintenance could be for life. However, the law is now in a state of change. Under the newly past law it may be easier to get maintenance. There is a new provision for temporary maintenance which provides maintenance to a spouse while the divorce is pending. The new law is somewhat complicated so we expected there to be fights on what it exactly means.
